People I love are hurting tonight. For reasons that seem unreal. Impossible. Unimaginable. Is it enough to offer a few moments of distraction and a string of prayers? Because I can’t speed up time and moving mountains won’t help anyone this time.

Moving mountains only moves them somewhere else, rather than evaporating them. All you can offer are those distractions and prayers but, believe me, they are just as vital as the mountain-moving. I shall be offering the prayers too.
Yes, the distractions and prayers I think do help, eventually. They pile up and sandbank the soul.
Prayers and distractions are often not only what are easiest, but what are needed most.
