I suppose I can start counting down now

Our trip to Europe sort of sneaked up on me. It was so far away, and then it was very very close: 11 days from now. We have a rough sketch of where we’re going to be at which times in our trip; we’ve booked all our transportation that requires advanced booking. We have places to lay our weary heads at night. Mostly with relatives in England, except for one night in Bath, and then in Bruges we’re staying at a bed & breakfast (here), and in Paris, we’re staying in a hotel in the Marais district.

I’m only just starting to realise that it’s time to be excited about going. I’ve always looked forward to going, obviously, but now it’s really happening. I get to go to the airport and get on a plane. I’ll be seeing all kinds of places I’ve never been, meeting people I’ve heard a lot about but have never met (meeting someone I know reasonably well for the first time). Experiencing different cultures and cuisine (only I’m not sure if England has cuisine; I know France and Belgium do).

How does a person come back from that? There will be summer and disc golf and festivals and hikes. But will the city start to seem flatter than it already is? Maybe the time away will give me the perspective I need to pop it into three dimensions.

I’m ready to get out of here.

Oh, now there’s a challenge. I can tell that I’m going to have crack open one of the luxury varieties of Tesco sausage rolls in order to tantalise your taste buds.

And the PG Tips are already brewing.

Ran that one past the husband and he figures those sausage rolls are probably pretty good. The only sausage rolls I’ve experienced are the ones my mother-in-law makes for Christmas.

And of course you know, that remark was special, just for you, to provoke the kind of response with which you responded. :) I’m looking forward to English food.
