I saw you in the big mall wearing some gawdawful concoction of the fashion industry. Your look of careful disdain or displeasure was intriguing. I think perhaps we should sit down and talk about the exact placement of those three strands of hair. Call me. Or whatever.

I vote for the comb-over. I remember you saying once that overcommenting is encouraged, but I suspect I can never tell when you are being ironical. Your writing is beautiful, there is something just behind it all the time that is difficult to catch, a kind of elegance and poise in the tone which sometimes almost dips into disdain but not quite, it seems always to hold enough humour and distance to make it somehow magical.
