Today, because

Today, because

news links bear unbearable photos
child death arrays unarranged
in haphazard view of hazard

Today, because

the life of words walks on ridgepoles
with crows, surveys the scavengeable
and feasts

Today, because

my legs push pedals drag life
noticing unnoticeable effort in minor muscles

Today, because

cherry blossoms pop popcorn string
branches along unexpected sunshine
heat and light excite this ride

Today, because

food and drink and love and clichés
fill my belly and belch the alphabet

Today, because

the gods don’t speak to everyone

Today, because

you are in pain and I am not

Today, because

Because today
